Sustainable farming has, in the past, delineated its coverage in a narrow and contracted sense. It was then viewed as something which concentrates only on how to make farming economically viable for land tillers. Over time however, it expanded into the wider grandstand of environmental protection and social responsibility. Today the challenge which clings on sustainability is by far all encompassing and is deemed to touch on every facet of accountability.

Sustainable farming effort has now moved its lens closely on community supported agriculture. Community supported agriculture is meant pooling the human resources, more particularly from individuals who are into tillage, to engage in agricultural undertaking jointly and shoulder to shoulder with one another. With the support given, farmers have made every hour spent on their farms count on the side of effectiveness and productivity.

By efforts directed towards farming sustainability, the natural resource base from which farmers derive their yields from has been well taken care of. If this base is to be enhanced, the quality of life of farmers is expected to flourish. They will then have the privilege to move out from the traditional moorings which have hampered their growth and at the same time serve the laudable cause of protecting the environment.

The concept of sustainable farming is currently overreaching. This even imposes duties which no matter how stimulating or boring are but viewed as indispensable in keeping our feet touching the ground. It is at these duties where we have been called upon to win. And when winning would mean securing the future of our posterity, then it boils back down to sustainability and hence, it is worth every try.

Sustainable agriculture, as eloquently enunciated by Wikipedia, integrates three main goals, namely: environmental stewardship, farm profitability, and prosperous farming communities. This is a challenge that has shifted directly on the shoulders of the wretched farmers rather than on governments. The farmers, being the principal actors in agricultural undertakings, are mostly invited to lend interest to the daily demands of environmental protection and stewardship.
